Many of those who visited our community centre in Chilonga will know her well: Naomi Chisukulu, who has been assisting us on many projects over the last two years. Seeing her translate Bemba to English and vice versa, you would almost forget what she did from day-to-day: studying at Mulungushi University. But that’s over now, as she has completed and is the proud holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administation. So… what’s next?
So what did you study?
“I studied business administration and entrepreneurship because I was curious about how businesses work and I wanted to see the best way to sell my art.”
What’s next?
“I’m hoping to continue with academia, do a masters or a second degree. An MBA or a second degree in international relations. I find learning fun, it’s nice to see how the world works.”
Has anybody pushed you to go for an MBA, instead of selling your art?
“Myself I guess, I’m not as interested in art as I was. I’d rather study it at my own pace instead of formally. It is still on my Instagram, but I don’t update it that often anymore.”
I saw your drawing of Pakistan’s “Iron Lady”, Muniba Mazari. Is she your role model?
“At the time, yes. These days I am very inspired by Mizinga Melu, a Zambian business woman, and the current CEO of ABSA Zambia, one of the biggest banks here. She’s one of the founders of the organization When Females Lead. I do not know her personally, but I have met her once. She was nice to talk to. I admire how she’s navigated the corporate world.”
Now that you have your degree and are following in her footsteps, is Kambisa! going to lose you?
“No! I’d like to continue working with Kambisa! It allowed me to practice what I’ve learned over the years while giving me the chance to learn more about different cultures and subcultures. I hope to keep on doing it and further my studies abroad, so I can see the world.”
