We are sorry to inform you that the Kambisa!OnWood project scheduled for July this summer has been cancelled due to the corona-virus in the Netherlands. The Dutch participants will be given the chance to join in 2021, provided the situation is better by then. Our organising partner ‘De Vliegende Meubelmakers’ has decided so as the epidemic in the Netherlands is not expected to be cleared by this summer. Off course, we do not want to risk spreading the infection in Zambia, nor do we want Dutch people to get stuck in Zambia, if the virus happens to reach it.
All the Dutch participants have been updated, and we are now going to debate what we will do with the Zambian participants in the meanwhile. This will also depend on the decision by a renewable energy company which may help us installing a solar system in the months to come. Once we have electricity, we can start activities such as film screenings, homework nights, poetry jams etc… If you have any ideas or suggestions, please let us know.
We are wishing everybody lots of good health! Please try to wash your hands with soap for at least twenty seconds before you enter your home coming from a crowded place. The virus seems to hide in an oily cover which you need to destroy to get rid of it. Not very good for the environment, but perhaps the best things you can do right now. Letting the soapy water run through a field of relatively soap-resistant greens like reeds can help you prevent damage to your other crops.
